Sharing the Gathering: Wild Foods from Harvest to Table with Traditional Storytelling
Celebrate fall as we were meant to - foraging and processing in community with story guiding our way! Two-part workshop! (Due to limitations of the website's event system, this appears as a weeklong event. It's actually a 2 hour session on October 2nd and a 3 hour session on October 9th!)
Time & Location
Oct 02, 2021, 1:30 PM – Oct 09, 2021, 4:30 PM
1st Saturday at Hoyt Park, 3902 Regent St, Madison, WI 53705, USA
About the Event
Join foraging mentor Andy Gricevich of What Got Gathered and Coral Conant Gilles, Storytelling Naturalist for a two day workshop foraging and processing acorns*.
Saturday, October 2nd, we’ll kick off with a story and some history of acorn uses, forage acorns (and possibly other treats) and begin processing them for flour. (Hoyt Park, 3902 Regent St, Madison WI 53705)
The following week, on Saturday October 9th, we’ll come together in community to continue processing while Coral shares stories - the mind and body in balance of work and rest. Andy and Coral will have a foraged treat or three for us to nibble and taste as we work. At the end of the day everyone will go home with acorn meal to finish processing, as well as suggestions for use (We suggest acorn pancakes!). Most of the work will be done, and you’ll have the knowhow to easily finish the process. (This portion will be in Coral's backyard. The address will be supplied with registration, but is in Madison, WI and accessible by bike, bus, and car.)
*While we hope for acorns, we know our necessarily rigid schedule may not align with nature’s organic timeline. If acorns are not available to forage, we will gather what is available, discuss how to use and process it, and process acorns Andy and Coral gather in the weeks prior. Nuts are likely, in any event!
Discounts: Bring a friend or partner for $75, teens* $65 each, children 5 - 12 years old with an adult for $40 each, children 4 and under free

This event will take place outside with social distancing possible at all times. We will make the choice about mask wearing based on the most cautious person in our group - we want everyone to feel safe. All are welcome. Please bring a mask.
